Dr Andrew Kueh

Platform Lead and Head of the Melbourne Advanced Gene Editing Centre (MAGEC)

Dr Andrew Kueh is the Platform Lead and Head of the Melbourne Advanced Gene Editing Centre (MAGEC) at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute (ONJCRI) and the La Trobe University School of Cancer Medicine. He also serves as Director of the Phenomics Australia in vivo Genome Engineering and Disease Modelling Nodes at ONJCRI and the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute (WEHI).

Dr Kueh has established a national reputation in CRISPR/Cas9 genome engineering, leading the generation of one of Australia’s first CRISPR/Cas9 gene-edited mouse models in 2014. Under his leadership, more than 450 unique genetically engineered mouse models have been created.

Leveraging Dr Kueh’s expertise in advanced genome engineering, MAGEC specialises in the generation of sophisticated mouse models, including conditional, humanised, reporter and gene-swap models. These models support cutting-edge biomedical research and have been delivered to medical research institutes, universities, biotechnology companies, and pharmaceutical partners across Australia and internationally, including collaborators in the United States, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and Germany.

Mouse models developed by MAGEC have underpinned discoveries reported in approximately 100 peer-reviewed publications, including landmark studies published in leading journals such as Nature, Cell, and Science. Collectively, these contributions have advanced fundamental biological discovery and accelerated translational research across cancer, immunology, genetics, and other areas of human disease.
