Dr Benjamin Gully
Head, Immunosurveillance Laboratory
Dr Benjamin Gully leads the Immunosurveillance Laboratory at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute and the La Trobe University School of Cancer Medicine. He holds an adjunct Senior Research Fellow position at Monash University and is an affiliate member of the ARC Centre for Cryo-electron Microscopy of Membrane Proteins.
His research defines the molecular mechanisms of γδ T cell activation and immune surveillance, underpinning new cancer immunotherapies. This work, published in Nature, Science, Nature Communications, and more, is now shaping next-generation immunotherapies.
Dr Gully has secured major competitive funding, including an ARC Future Fellowship and multiple ARC Discovery Projects. His research has also attracted international support from the US Department of Defense. Importantly, his discoveries are translating beyond academia: he has worked alongside LAVA Therapeutics and Gadeta Therapeutics to advance γδ T cell-targeting biologics, contributing to programs that have progressed to first-in-human cancer trials.
At ONJCRI, he continues to drive fundamental discoveries in immune regulation while accelerating the development of γδ T cell-based cancer immunotherapies.
