Prof Eliza Hawkes

Laboratory Head, Lymphoma Clinical Innovations Laboratory
Medical Oncologist, Austin Health
Lymphoma Lead, Austin Health

Prof Eliza Hawkes’ goal is to harness the power of clinical research, including clinical trials, real-world registry research, qualitative studies and biomarker testing, and embed laboratory science into clinical care sooner.

This is achieved through close relationships between research institutes, hospitals, researchers, clinicians and patients across Australia and internationally.

Prof Hawkes completed a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at Monash University, followed by formal training as a medical oncologist in the care of cancer patients both in Melbourne and via a five-year clinical fellowship at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, UK. She is a Fellow of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (Medical Oncology) and has a DMedSc from the University of Melbourne (Medicine). As an oncologist at Austin Health, her main areas of responsibility are to lead the care and manage patients with lymphoma and gastrointestinal cancer treatment.

A key area of focus for Prof Hawkes is designing new trials involving novel therapies, biomarkers, imaging and patient-reported outcome measures to better understand how these new treatments affect patients. She also holds a leadership role in the national Lymphoma and Related Diseases Registry, housed at Monash University.
