The matching of imaging and therapy with radiopharmaceuticals (theranostics) has emerged as a promising new area for cancer treatment.
The ACRF Centre for Precision Medicine is a leading facility for target and drug discovery, and clinical translation, utilising state-of-the-art molecular imaging and theranostic techniques.
Researchers and oncologists at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute (ONJCRI), La Trobe University, University of Melbourne and major Teaching Hospitals across Australia can access the Institute’s existing expertise and capabilities in precision medicine imaging and therapies through the Centre, facilitating the translation of discoveries into the clinic.

Capabilities
- Radiolabelling and quality control testing of small molecules, peptides, proteins and antibodies for preclinical studies for imaging (SPECT and PET), and therapy (beta and alpha isotopes).
- Development of novel chelation and radiolabelling protocols, including automation.
- Pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic analysis of novel imaging probes and drugs.
- Handling small-scale gamma, positron, beta and alpha particle radiolabelling experiments.
- Producing quantities of radiolabelled probes and drugs suitable for preclinical studies, which are an essential component for development and work-up for clinical studies.
- Translation of novel imaging probes and theranostics to clinical trials.
A Unique Resource
ONJCRI’s affiliations and experience with laboratory-based basic discovery science, molecular imaging probes and theranostics, novel drug development, translational research, clinical trials and links to academic institutions, hospitals and pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies provide a unique resource of discovery and clinical translation for the Australian scientific and clinical community.
The ACRF Centre for Precision Medicine was made possible thanks to a generous grant from Australian Cancer Research Foundation.
