About the position

The IT team sits within the Research Support team which provides timely and efficient research support services to our cancer researchers to enable them to focus on and get the best out of their research. Working alongside the IT Manager and the IT Support Engineer, The IT Systems Administrator will be primarily responsible for maintaining the operational effectiveness of the ONJCRI’s infrastructure systems and service. This ranges across the whole of infrastructure including physical and virtual servers, desktop environments, networks, firewalls and cloud based services.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Perform daily system and network monitoring, verifying the availability and security of all hardware, servers, systems and key processes
  • Install, maintain, upgrade and troubleshoot hardware and software across the IT infrastructure
  • Administration and monitoring of Exchange, Active Directory, Azure AD, Group Policy, Intune, Storage, Servers, Patching, Databases, Scripts, Security (Firewall, System, Endpoint), Network, VPN, DNS, DHCP
  • Support the design and building of O365 solutions covering Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive for Business, and Microsoft Teams
  • Troubleshoot network and applications issues end to end
  • Assist in the successful implementation of IT improvement projects

Your essential experience will include:

  • Strong knowledge of implementing, operating and developing IT operations best practices, including security, storage, data protection and disaster recovery
  • Administration of Microsoft Active Directory, servers, storage (SAN, DAS), networks, patch deployment and backup/archive/recovery
  • Hyper V Microsoft virtualisation platform
  • Microsoft 365 environment administration
  • Firewall, VPN and network administration
  • Managing Endpoint Protection policies
  • Installing, supporting and troubleshooting PC and Apple Mac based hardware and operating systems
  • Supporting a range of software applications, including Microsoft Office, Endnote, Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign/Acrobat, PRISM and administration and accounting packages.
  • Responding Endpoint Protection security events and identifying suspicious email
