Maintenance Engineer / Technician

The Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute (ONJCRI) is a leader in the development of experimental and breakthrough cancer treatments. We investigate and develop treatments for cancers of the breast, bowel, lung, melanoma, prostate, liver, gastrointestinal tract and brain. ONJCRI is integrated within the ONJ Cancer Centre, with research laboratories only metres away from where patients are cared for and receive treatment. This inspires and enables the rapid translation of scientific discoveries into clinical trials leading to new and better cancer treatment.

About the position

We are currently looking for a self-motivated individual who is good with their hands and thinks on their feet.  You will be responsible for the efficient and effective operation of all ONJCRI equipment and facilities, finding creative solutions to repair equipment to extend its useful life.

This is a hands-on role, requiring someone technically skilled and minded who can respond quickly and effectively to breakdowns and perform general and preventative maintenance.

To support the seamless running of equipment within the labs, you will be required to be on-call out of hours and weekends on a rotating basis and will be compensated with an on-call allowance.

Ideally you will have experience in providing electrical, engineering and/or instrumentation support. Experience with repair of scientific or medical equipment is essential and electrical/ electronic certification would be advantageous.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Repair, test and calibrate laboratory equipment.  Arrange external repair only when necessary
  • Test new equipment and perform regular testing of existing equipment to ensure it complies with electrical safety standards
  • Assist the Laboratory and Facilities Manager with the efficient delivery and coordination of facilities services including planning and implementation of scheduled and preventative maintenance and onsite service contractors
  • Monitor and attend to internal work requests via Support Request system
  • Carry out minor building repair and general maintenance works as required
  • Report building and plant faults in ONJCRI offices and Labs to Hospital Engineering via BIEMS
  • Ensure stocks of stand – alone bottled gases are maintained, and that bottles are changed over
  • Assist the Laboratory and Facilities Manager with managing Maintenance contracts.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. A generous salary packaging scheme up to $18,550 per annum is offered to staff.
