About the position

The Finance team sits within the Professional Services team which provides timely and efficient research support services to our cancer researchers to enable them to focus on and get the best out of their research. We are seeking a passionate and people-focused Management Accountant who wants more out of a job than just crunching numbers. This role gives you the opportunity to truly support our organisation’s vision and mission. Alongside the Finance Manager and the Financial Accountant, you will partner with our Budget Heads (our Lab and Program Heads) in managing their finances effectively, so they can focus their efforts on cancer research.

The Management Accountant will be accountable for financial management, reporting, budgets and forecasting for all research groups as an integral part of the Finance team.

The role will work closely with Lab and Program Heads in the management and reporting of expenses within funding limitations and provide support in all financial matters. You will need to take the initiative to develop these relationships, get to know the business and work strategically to be successful in this role.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and distributing monthly financial reports
  • Liaising with budget heads on the financial performance of their respective laboratories/programs
  • Preparation of grant financial acquittals as they become due, working closely with the grants team
  • Preparation of annual budgets and rolling forecasts for review by Finance Manager
  • Assist with monthly management reports and the annual statutory financial statements
  • Weekly cashflow forecasting
  • Preparation of monthly journals
  • Assist in maintenance of procurement system and workflow processes.

This opportunity will suit applicants with a minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role or at a similar accounting level, accompanied with business or finance tertiary qualifications and CA/CPA qualifications.

Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains (GP) is considered highly desirable.
