About the opportunity

The Fundraising function sits within the wider Research Support team, providing expert, timely and efficient services to our cancer researchers to enable them to focus on and get the best out of their research.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced fundraising professional to lead and implement the fundraising strategy of the Institute, focused on growing income from philanthropic sources to support ground-breaking cancer research that truly makes a positive impact on the lives of cancer patients.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, with close working relations with the Communication and Marketing Manager, Research Development Manager and the Senior Project Manager – Strategy and Impact, key responsibilities include:

  • Playing an integral part in the development of a culture of fundraising within the Institute, including engaging with and supporting researchers at all levels to understand the fundraising process;
  • Prospecting and identifying major grant opportunities with philanthropic organisations;
  • Proactively identifying potential donors, high net worth individuals, corporate partners and bequest donors with a view to developing long term relationships/partnerships and funding streams;
  • Implementing donor stewardship programs and campaigns;
  • Taking responsibility for donations, gifts, bequests and philanthropic grants from all sources whether in Australia or internationally;
  • Working with key internal stakeholders to develop project cases for support and develop the stakeholders’ awareness for how they can contribute to the donor journey;
  • Identifying and implementing any fundraising tools which will improve the donor experience and help donor acquisition. This includes managing the introduction and implementation of a donor database;
  • Work closely with the Communications and Marketing Manager and the Research Development Manager to grow relationships with philanthropists, trusts and foundations.

Tertiary qualifications in business, fundraising or an allied discipline together with subsequent relevant work experience; or extensive experience in donor development and fundraising is required.
