START YOUR JOURNEY IN CANCER RESEARCH

As a teaching institute, the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute (ONJCRI) is committed to developing the next generation of cancer researchers by offering meaningful, hands-on learning experiences in a real-world research environment. Each year, we host a limited number of placements for students across a range of education levels and backgrounds.
Whether you are exploring your passion for science in secondary school, completing a university workplace learning program, or undertaking an international internship as part of your degree, ONJCRI provides a unique opportunity to learn from world-class scientists in a collaborative, hospital-based setting.
Placement streams include:
- Secondary School work experience: Available to Year 10 students aged 15 years or over at the start of the program, with a preference for students from rural or regional schools. The Secondary School Work Experience Program will not be offered in Semester 3 or Semester 4 of 2026. Please check back at a later date for updates on future opportunities.
- Graduate workplace learning programs: For 2nd and 3rd year students from La Trobe University, Monash University, The University of Melbourne, and Deakin University.
- Undergraduate and Masters internships: For both local and international students completing placements as part of their study curriculum.
ONJCRI values diversity and is committed to providing educational opportunities to students from a range of backgrounds and life experiences.
