Marnie Manning

Executive General Counsel

Marnie has almost 20 years’ experience as a legal practitioner, including more than twelve years’ experience as a General Counsel and executive leader with management responsibility for governance, compliance and other functions across a variety of highly regulated and complex industries, and in senior executive leadership in government.

Prior to joining the Institute, Marnie was the Director of Legal Services of the Coroners Court of Victoria.  She previously held general counsel and international corporate counsel positions in large multinational businesses in the healthcare, manufacturing, forestry and construction sectors.  Prior to that, she was a Senior Associate in private practice.   She also has extensive Board experience as a Non-Executive Director and corporate governance adviser.

In addition to legal qualifications, she holds a Bachelor of Science with double majors in Environmental Science and Molecular Biology with First Class Honours in Molecular Biology; a mini MBA from Boston University; and a Certificate in Governance and Risk Management from the Governance Institute of Australia.  She is in the final stages of completing a PhD in Law at Monash University and is a Recognised Scholar of the University of Oxford for her doctoral work.  She is a Fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia, a Councillor of the Australasian College of Legal Medicine, and a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
