While breast cancer research is undertaken in laboratories and clinical settings, its impact reaches far further.
In late October, ONJCRI Postdoctoral Research Fellow Dr Kellie Mouchemore stepped out of the lab and into the offices of ELMO Software, where she spoke about her work with employees who had gathered for a Breast Cancer Awareness Month morning tea fundraiser.
The funds raised at the event will have a direct impact on the institute’s breast cancer research outcomes.
Organised by ELMO’s Southern Regional Sales Director Janine Maligina, this event was broadcast across multiple ELMO sites around Australia, and demonstrated the impact that can be achieved when workplaces come together for a cause.
The Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute (ONJCRI) team also shared insights about the Australian research funding landscape, highlighting that philanthropic support helps to fill the gap between what government grants can provide and what is needed to sustain cutting-edge cancer research.
For Dr Mouchemore and the ONJCRI team, these conversations are incredibly motivating, reminding them that behind every experiment is a community of supporters who believe in a better future.
We thank Janine Maligina and everyone at ELMO Software for their generosity during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, for their genuine engagement with our research, and for demonstrating what workplace philanthropy can look like at its best.
